Rodmersham

St Nicholas, Rodmersham

Welcome to St Nicholas, Rodmersham.

The church is dedicated to St Nicholas. It is a mediaeval gem with a sensitive Victorian interior restoration and is a focus for both worship and community activities. There was already a church on the site, when King Henry II (1154-1189) made a gift of it to the Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem. In the centuries following, the church was enlarged, reflecting the wealth and prestige of the order. For 400 years, the Prior appointed the Parish Priest.
Today the church is a large and striking building. The 15th Century tower was described by a noted writer on the history and architecture of the County’s churches as ‘one of the most beautiful in Kent’.
